Film, foil and plastic

Films of different thicknesses made of materials with different physical properties, such as silo films or tubular bags, require cutting tools adapted to the individual application. Among others films and plastics are used for packaging food and medical products, which is why our knives and knife holders also come into direct contact with the product. For this reason, our knives meet special hygiene and quality standards. DIENES is the leading direct supplier for relevant mechanical engineering in this market segment.

DIENES know-how

Razor blade cutting, crush cutting and shear cutting are used. Regardless of which of these processes is used, DIENES always adapts its products for processing film, foil and plastic to the respective material-specific properties. Only in this way we can guarantee the best possible results. Therefore, depending on the film thickness, we recommend equipping the knife holders with a quick-change head. Then it is possible to cut either in razor or shear cut.

The demand for ever smaller cutting widths with the greatest possible stability is met by DIENES in many DF knife holder models with ball bearing knife holder axles. These maintain stability even at high cutting speeds. The backlash-free, vibration-damping vertical and horizontal guide systems ensure a constant shear angle. For particularly narrow cutting widths, for example 0.5 mm, we recommend the patented DIENES Golden Slit knives with an anti-dust surface. The slits in the knife create a spring effect. Tolerances and cutting-critical vibrations are thus compensated for as far as possible. In addition, a new type of refinement reduces cutting dust, increases tool life and thus saves costs.

Cutting shrink films

In addition to processing film, foil and plastic, we are also familiar with cutting shrink film, shrink packaging, shrink tubing, shrink sleeves and shrink tapes. Due to its shrink properties, the film wraps around the final product like a “second skin”, giving it the added value of excellent presentation and exceptional protection.

For cutting shrink films and labels, the razor blade or shear cutting process is used, depending on the film thickness and consistency. This allows cutting during the shrinking process. The process is called Roso – Roll-on – Shrink-on. This is used to process materials such as full-body sleeves, shrink sleeves, promotion packs, shrink tape, wrap-around labels, self-adhesive labels, wrap-around labels, MDO films and TDO films.
